Winter Park High School Band Alumni Association, Inc. "WPHSBAA"
Dear WPHS Band Alumni,
Purpose:Once again we enter a new school year with a brand new purpose for alumni to help raise money to support this 79th year of the Winter Park High School Band program. Over the course of the last school year, we helped raise money for the Pride of the Wildcats campaign to upgrade the band’s semi-trailer with new aluminum stairs and to rewire and improve the lighting as well. A large sign with individual plaques will be mounted on the inside of the door to fully display the names of those who (during the last school year) gave $100 or more to the cause. Thank you to all who donated, because without your help, the stairs would not have been completed prior to band camp and the upcoming marching season. This year’s fundraising purpose will be to raise money for the Band’s performance in Los Angeles at the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Disneyland in June 2019. Please continue your support, or start your support today!
Homecoming: Homecoming is set for Friday, October 5, 2018. The Alumni Band will meet at Brookshire Elementary at approximately 6:00 PM and walk in with the band as usual. All details will come as we get closer and will be posted on our Facebook group, Winter Park High School Alumni Band, as well as on our website, winterparkhighschoolalumniband.com. We still have a few of the 75th Anniversary T-shirts left, and they are perfect to wear at the homecoming games, whether you are playing or not! $5 cash or check gets you a shirt (first come first serve, while supplies last), and all proceeds will go directly to this year’s fundraising campaign. This year’s half-time show is titled “The Summer of Love,” featuring music by The Fifth Dimension, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, and more!
History: The WPHSBAA has raised approximately $25,000 for the band since it was founded in 2009, and we need to continue our efforts. It was created to help offset the rising costs for a band program of this caliber, including purchasing/repairing instruments, purchasing music, maintaining the trailer and uniforms for the Sound of the Wildcats Marching Band, and for trips to showcase the extensive talent within the ensembles performing at festivals across the nation. This is the 6th year that Chris Blackmer, Director of Bands, and Mike Clemente, Associate Director of Bands, will be at the helm. It will also be the first time the Wind Symphony has traveled to Los Angeles, California to tour and perform. Where will they go next? Stay tuned…
From all the board members of the WPHSBAA, thank you for your generous support.
